Abstract
Out of the monosacchrides and oligosaccharides D(+)---glucose and D(+)--- sucrose were found to be the best carbon sources for the germination of spores of helminthosporium oryzae , Whereas D (+) – minnose did not favour spore germination at 2 to 5 percent concentrations. Distilled water did not enhance the germination of spores but a stimulatory effect was observed in tap water. There was no germination in any of the concentrations of oxalic and malic acids even after 5 days. Mostly mono and bipolar type germination was noticed . A gradual change in color of conidia from dark brown to light brown was observed.
