Salinity induced changes in the growth and chemical composition of potato

, red bed , norland, chieftain and red lasoda were grown in soil containing various concentrations of salts at par with saline soils of Pakistan. Lower concentration of salts upto 0.4% were promotory in
tuberization whereas higher salinity levels of 1% were inhibitory. Protein contents of tubers increased at low and decreased at high salinity levels in all potato varieties . total sugar content of tubers increased with increasingly concentrations of salts . in red bed total chlorophyll content decreased with increasing salt concentrations while in rest of the varieties the reduction was observed above 0.4% salt level.
