Observations on
the fine structure of the
endophyte in root nodules of alnus nitida ENDL. ABSTRACT: The ultrastructure of root nodules of
the Asian alder , alnus nitida , reveals that the developmental stages of the endophyte (frankia sp.) inside the nodules resemble with other actinorhize of Alnus spp. , and with pure cultures of frankia strains isolated from the same plant. The young stage of the endophyte shows hyphate which penetrate the cell wall of the conical cells and establish in the center of the cell as samified mass. The ends of the hyphate near the periphery of the host cell are swollen to form sphericsl vesicles
the mature vesicles are septate, each compartment having its own nuclear material . void areas are present around the vesicles . an upper layer and a basal loose layer of the vesicle cell wall have been found inside the void area. The plants nucleus is characterized by a double porous membrane at the periphery . oncentration of mitochondria are present near the vesicles, suggesting a close association between the
endophyte and the host. The possible function of the capsular material surrounding the vesicles for the protection of nitrogenase against oxygen is discissed.

Changes in
isozymes shikimate dehydrogenase and peroxidase during gibberellic acid induced induction and formation of antheridium in the fern anemia phyllitidis.Javed iqbal and

Changes in
isozymes shikimate dehydrogenase and peroxidase during gibberellic acid induced induction and formation of antheridium in the fern anemia phyllitidis. ABSTRACT: Changes in isozymes of shikimate
dehydrogenase and peroxidase were studied during the induction and formation of antheridium in anemia phyllitidis . upto six isozymic forms of shikimate dehydrogenase were detected . starting from two isozymes in dry spores the number rose to four during germination and six during antheridium formation . three isozymes of peroxidase were first detected on sixth day of development when antheridia had been formed and spermatogenesis initiated . no- qualitative differences in both of these enzymes were found in between vegetative and antheridial prothalli. The observed differences in between two treatments were quanitative , the amount of both enzymes being greater in antheridium bearing prothalli.

Studies on the
inhibition by zinc of L.malate and
L-glutamate dehydrogenases extracted from the roots of zinc tolerant and non tolerant clones of antheroxanthum odoratum L. ABSTRACT: In vitro studies on the inhibition of L-
malate and L-glummate dehydrogenasea by zinc revealed that the two enzymes from both
tolerant and non tolerant clones were equally sensitive to ImM zinc. No evidence of enzymic tolerance was found. Kinetic studies showed that
the inhibitors was of mixed type and that the kinetic parameter of importance was the dissociation constant of the reaction E1=E+1(K). it

Effect of brown
rust on dry matter composition and nucleic acid contents of wheat. ABSTRACT: Changes in dry matter composition
and nucleic acid content of a wheat leaves after increased both in rust infected and fungicide-treated leaves. Fungicidal treatment had little effect on dry weight basis. No significant changes occurred in plant moisture content (PMC) whereas a substancial increase in dry matter content was observed in infected and fungicide – treated leaves . increase in RNA and DNA contents were evident 2 days after inoculation (DAI) and remained high throughout the period of investigation.

populous species growing in pakistan ABSTRACT: holocellulose , alphacellulose and
lignin contents of four populous species viz, P. ciliate wall. Ex. Royle P. deltoids marsh, P. euphratica oliver and P. eur-americana guinder were investigated from extractive-free wood of trunks and branches. In trunkwood amount of holocellulose , alphacelluklose and lignin ranged

A preliminary
study of air borne pollen grains in karachi ABSTRACT: During may-november , 1978,
atmospheric pollen grains of the families gramineae , cyperaceae, chenopodiaceae, boraginaceae, tamaricaceae, scrophulariaceae, fabaceae , solanaceae, primulaceae, capparidaceae, convolvulaceae, cupressaceae , euphorbiaceae and aristolochiaceae were trapped from Karachi area. The highest pollen frequency was recorded in the lat week of june with grass pollen grains dominating in over-all pollen counts . pollen frequency was higher at a height of 15 meters than 1.2 meters.

On the
occurrence of cyanophyta from Karachi , pakistan ABSTRACT: Twenty genera and 49 species of fresh
water blue-green algae belonging to chroacoccacles and nostocales were identified from ponds. Ditches and wet soil of Karachi . the order nostocales with 12 genera and 31 species was more abundant than chroacoccales with 8 genera and 18 species . the species of chroacoccales were found submerged in water and
